Natasha Basu
Yoga Instructor
Natasha was first introduced to yoga during family visits to India, during which her grandfather taught her simple breathing techniques to help her cope with her anxiety. She spent much of her childhood doing ballet, and later flamenco, and at university she began taking regular Vinyasa yoga classes. During these classes she began to realise the importance of connecting breath with movement.
Shortly after graduating, Natasha was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in her right tibia. She underwent chemotherapy and radiation for about a year, and during that time she was mostly confined to her bed. She practiced meditating, and as soon as she had the strength to move, she returned to yoga. She spent the next decade repairing her health—her gut health, her mental health and her physical health. During this process, movement in general, and yoga in particular, became vital to her recovery. Feeling the positive impacts that yoga, breathwork and meditation had on her health, Natasha decided to become a certified yoga teacher.
Natasha does not believe in quick fixes, but she does believe in consistency, and in taking a holistic approach to healing. In her classes, she likes to incorporate breathwork in addition to creating dynamic and fun sequences. She is inspired by yoga philosophy and the way that yoga was always intertwined in her grandparents’ everyday life. She has a Doctorate in Philosophy and has written a novel. She knows the negative impacts that desk work and being in one’s head can have on the body, and she believes that consistent movement is part of the remedy. When she’s not teaching yoga or working on her next novel, she is probably taking a Pilates class at APPI!
