What is stretch therapy?

Stretch therapy is a form of therapist assisted stretching which aims to improve flexibility, mobility, treat injury, aid recovery and overall physical well-being. Kelly, our highly skilled massage therapist is also specially trained in this unique form of therapy. Kelly is excited to be offering this to clients looking to increase their general mobility and flexibility – from athletes to weekend warriors, less active and injured to regular exercisers. As you’d expect at APPI clinics, sessions are highly personalised according to each and every client’s needs.

How does it help?

Regular stretch therapy sessions help to keep the muscle fibres pliable and healthy. And because the stretches are therapist assisted, it allows joints to be taken through larger ranges to target flexibility through fuller ranges of motion.

What’s the main difference between massage and stretch therapy?

The known benefits of regular massage therapy includes aiding healthy blood flow, breaking up muscle tension, improving muscle flexibility and pliability as well as removing toxins after strenuous exercises and relieving stress.

The major benefit of stretch therapy is increased muscle flexibility. Therefore if you’re looking to increase your range of motion and general mobility in your everyday and sporting life, stretching is the way to go.

So, which one should I go for? Most experts would recommend stretching over massage if your main goal is mobility or flexibility — but it’s not always easy to complete a stretch routine every day. With that in mind, a mix of stretching and massage therapy is often the most beneficial. And of course everyone experiences movement differently, so try both and see which one works best for you.

Furthermore, unlike massage therapy, stretch therapy involves active participation from the client. Our therapist supports your body throughout the stretch and will guide you through active assisted stretches which help you achieve a deeper stretch and greater benefits.

You can book an appointment in either of our London clinics in Hampstead and Wimbledon.
