At APPI we’re honoured to offer our 8-week Pink Ribbon programme for post-breast-cancer rehabilitation. It’s a unique and effective programme – where we use transitional exercises for specific kinds of reconstruction surgery.
We’re confident our programme can make a great difference to the quality and function of your life.
How does Pink Ribbon work?
The programme can be the first step you take towards returning to your pre-cancer life.
We’ll start with our in-depth assessment, where we’ll get to know your medical history, treatments and the type of reconstruction you’ve had.
After having active treatment and post-reconstruction, your muscles can become weak and deconditioned – in particular we often see movements around the shoulder and back can be impaired. So we’ll aim to help you restore these movement patterns.
There are 4 phases to the programme
- In phase 1 we’ll focus on shoulder stabilisation, chest expansion, and small-range shoulder motion exercises.
- We’ll then progress to spinal mobilisation movements in the 2nd phase.
- Phase 3 moves into core strengthening and neural integration – which means using the body as a whole.
- In phase 4 we’ll work with resistance bands to strengthen your back, shoulder and trunk muscles.
How can Pink Ribbon help me?
When you’re first diagnosed with breast cancer, one question that comes to mind is ‘What can I do to help fight this disease?’ Research has shown exercise is one of the biggest factors in improving long-term survival rates and treatment outcomes.
We know the physiological side effects from treatment can be difficult – and it’s so easy to take a back seat in getting active again. Don’t worry though, at APPI we’ll help you get back into exercise gradually.
Our programme’s effective because we offer transitional exercises for specific reconstruction surgery – from implant reconstruction to TRAM Flap, DIEP Flap and Lat Flap.
When can I start?
You can begin as soon as 6-12 weeks post-op – depending on how well your healing is going. Though as with any exercise plan, it’s important that you’re signed off by your surgeon before you get started.
At APPI we believe in making you feel relaxed and welcomed and your whole experience with us should feel enjoyable. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with our lovely reception teams on 0207 794 6560 (Hampstead) or 0208 8797711 (Wimbledon) or by contacting us at hello@appiclinics.com. We’ll introduce you to one of our Pink Ribbon practitioners – who’ll be very happy to help you!
