Ami Sohara
Pilates Instructor
Ami Sohara is a Japanese Pilates instructor with a lifelong passion for movement and body awareness. Her journey began at the age of three with baton twirling, where she became a two-time national champion in Japan. She later expanded her athletic background to include swimming, volleyball, and marathon running, completing full marathons in Tokyo, Helsinki, and Hawaii.
After the birth of her third child, Ami experienced chronic back pain and fatigue, which led her to discover the transformative benefits of Pilates. Through consistent practice, she regained strength, mobility, and the ability to move pain-free. This personal experience inspired her to become a certified Pilates instructor, with a strong focus on helping others restore function, reduce pain, and rebuild confidence in their bodies.
Ami is a dual-certified instructor (BASI Pilates Mat and Balanced Body Reformer) with additional training in injury management, ante and postnatal Pilates, and equipment-based rehabilitation including Chair and Cadillac. She has experience working with a wide range of conditions, including disc herniation, neck and shoulder injuries, frozen shoulder, and post-surgical rehabilitation.
Before relocating to the UK in 2023, Ami lived in Finland, where she delivered online Pilates sessions to the Japanese community. She now teaches both group classes and private sessions in London, offering personalised, client-centred instruction tailored to individual needs.
Her sessions focus on precise movement, alignment, and safe progression, making them suitable for beginners through to those recovering from injury. Ami believes Pilates is more than exercise—it is a holistic approach that builds strength, restores balance, and supports long-term wellbeing. She is committed to helping each client move better, feel stronger, and reconnect with their body.
